SA Style Awards 2014

“It is the personality in the dress that brings it to life!”

This year marked the 19th year that Jill Grogor’s Style Awards have been given out to the beautiful, the clever and the brave. Acknowledging those people making strides and pushing the boundaries in various categories. The great thing about the nominees is that their style has a broader meaning than what they wear or where they live. Winners are stylish when they break taboos or represent with humility as much as fashion.

This year, as part of the judging team with fellow past winners (we have won “most stylish designer” and “most stylish couple” in the past), we chose this years most stylish in Categories like SA Icon – Thuli Madonsela, Business Personality – Natasha Sideris of Tashas Restaurant, Albertus Swanepoel – Miliner living and working in New York, Chu Suwannapha – most inovative style, Joelle Kayembe – most stylish Model (and she is even more beautiful close up), Most stylish performing artists in music – Mafikizolo.

STYLE AWARDS 1

The two categories that for obvious reasons we loved the most were Most Stylish couple – Josh Lindberg and Zuraida Jardine and Most stylish Newcomer – Nandi Mngoma, both ladies wore KLUK CGDT that evening and by the response on the social media platforms, both were most deserving of their prizes. Even though we are biased, they looked amazing and as we always say: “It is the personality in the dress that brings it to life!”

STYLE AWARDS 2

The evening was sponsored in part by Yves Saint Laurent Beauté and we were asked to design an outfit to compliment the launch of make-up colours based on one of the designers key looks. Our look was “Le Smoking” made famous in part by the iconic Helmut Newton photograph of a model in Tuxedo in a Paris backstreet at night, smoking a cigarette. It is an image that has influenced our design and style over the years and was fitting for this evening too. We considered how we would re-interperet the “look” in our style and for todays fashion market. We decided in keeping with the integrity of the image and the design house, a black Tuxedo would be our end point, but for us it was a Playsuit in black wool with satin lapel, nothing underneath other than perfume and with a tulle bow tied long down our model’s (Miss SA Tatum Keshwar) back. We also added a raven black feather coat, a bit of drama from our side! Tatum is magnificent, her long legs suited the look perfectly and the outfit was a big hit on the evening thanks to her.

STYLE AWARDS 3

The evening was so much fun and guests were treated to a floating dinner high up in the Tsogo Sun Hyde Park Hotel with a view overlooking Jhb like we never get to see. Our other favourite guests of the night and most stylish, included David Gilson of Carlton hair, Singer Lira and of course Caterer Vicky Crease and Miss SA Vanessa Carreira also wearing KLUK CGDT and Rocking it!
